Segal, Gregg

Daily bread : What kids eat around the world / Gregg Segal ; foreword by Bee Wilson

New York : PowerHouse books, 2019

Abstract: As globalization alters our relationship to food, photographer Gregg Segal has embarked on a global project asking kids from around the world to take his “Daily Bread” challenge. Each child keeps a detailed journal of everything they eat in a week, and then Segal stages an elaborate portrait of them surrounded by the foods they consumed. The colorful and hyper-detailed results tell a unique story of multiculturalism and how we nourish ourselves at the dawn of the 21st century.

Ansel Adams : 400 photographs / edited by Andrea G. Stillman

London : Little, Brown and Company, 2016

Abstract: Ansel Adams: 400 Photographs presents the full spectrum Adams' greatest work in a single volume for the first time, offering an entirely different perspective on his monumental career. The photographs are arranged chronologically into five major periods in order to convey Adams' development as an artist-from his first photographs made in Yosemite and the High Sierra in 1916 to his work in the National Parks in the 1940s up to his last important photographs from the 1960s. An introduction and brief essays on selected images provide information about Adams' life, document the evolution of his technique, and give voice to his artistic vision. Few artists of any era can claim to have produced four hundred images of lasting beauty and significance. It is a testament to Adams' vision and a lifetime of hard work that a book of this scale can be justified. Ansel Adams: 400 Photographs is a must-have reference and gift book for anyone who appreciates photography and the allure of the natural world.

Conner, Lois

Beijing : contemporary and imperial / Lois Conner ; in collaboration with Geremie R. Barmé

New York : Princeton Architectural Press, 2014

Abstract: For nearly 30 years Lois Conner has been traveling to China to photograph the juxtaposition of contemporary architecture, including the National Stadium "Bird's Nest" in Beijing by Herzog & de Meuron against the ancient ruins from the Gardens of Perfect Brightness. The book uses images and text, ideas and sensibility to reflect and meditate on the rising power of China in the world context and in the context of China's history and cultural landscape. Beijing: Contemporary and Imperial reflects the unique photographic vision of Lois Conner (on the transformation of Beijing) and it is extended by the structure of ideas developed by Geremie R. Barme's traveling exhibition of these photographs organized by the Cleveland Museum of Art, opening in the Spring of 2014 will continue on to additional venues, to be confirmed. Lois Conner is a Guggenheim Fellow, and is included in major museums in Australia, Great Britain and throughout the US, among them are MoMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Getty Museum, and SFMoMA. She has taught photography for over 20 years at Yale University, Princeton University, Stanford University, Sarah Lawrence College and is currently teaching at Bard College. Geremie R. Barme's the author of several books on Chinese history, including Shades of Mao, and In the Red: On Contemporary Chinese Culture, along with contributing essays in several publications for gallery publications on Lois Conner"-- Provided by publisher
